Dr. Clodfelter is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of North Carolina and an addictions specialist. He completed his undergraduate work at Wake Forest University, Master's at Emory University, and doctoral degree at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta. He then completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Division on Substance Abuse (Dept. of Psychiatry) at Columbia University in New York City and remained there on faculty, as an assistant professor, after completion of the fellowship. Dr. Clodfelter's specialty is substance treatment and mental health concerns that sometimes come with a substance problem. He began his clinical work in substance abuse and mental health treatment in 1994. Dr. Clodfelter's research work began in 1997, and he became focused in the areas of substance problems and co-occurring mental health problems in 1999. For the past 5 years, he has worked in the areas of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders as a treating psychologist and as a researcher. His research efforts are clinically based and aimed at better understanding what works for persons seeking treatment for substance problems and mental health issues. Dr. Clodfelter has recently relocated to Raleigh and joined the Grew,
Morter, and Hartye team. He also works with SouthLight, Inc., a private
not-for-profit substance treatment facility, where he is Director of Research
and is a Clinical Supervisor.
