|
Dr. Amy Quinn received her B.A. degree in Psychology from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. She received her M.A. and Psy.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University at Washington, D.C. She completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Carolinas Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Quinn works with adults who are experiencing difficulties in a variety of areas, including depression, anxiety, life transitions and adjustments, grief and loss, and relationships. Dr. Quinn also conducts psychological evaluations, including ADHD evaluations, to help clarify diagnostic questions and gain a better understanding of how the individual views himself/herself and his/her environment. Dr. Quinn practices with the philosophy that therapy is a collaborative relationship between the therapist and the individual. In this relationship, the therapist provides a safe and supportive place for the individual to explore and express his/her thoughts and emotional difficulties. In addition, the therapist and individual work together to establish a treatment plan, which includes discussing his/her expectations of therapy and setting therapeutic goals. Through this relationship, the individual will work towards developing effective coping and problem-solving strategies. Dr. Quinn typically uses a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approach, while also integrating interpersonal techniques. This approach helps individuals identify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are causing them distress, and understand how those aspects are affecting how they view themselves, their environment, including those people around them, and their future.
