Mary Anne Attwell Hartye, Ph.D.

Mary Anne Attwell Hartye, Ph.D. received her training at Vanderbilt University (BA), Duke University (M.Ed.), and the University of Texas (Ph.D.). Her career has been focused on understanding children and family development. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents and their parents in individual and group settings. Dr. Hartye has specific interests in AD/HD, LD, social skills, emotional intelligence, grief and loss, and the challenges of parenting. Having three children of her own drives her practice philosophy of being practical and realistic yet still having fun.

Theoretically, Dr. Hartye draws from the research on child and adolescent development, family systems approaches and cognitive behavioral treatment. In looking at a person's current problematic behavior, she puts it in perspective of the individual's own history. She believes that we are all doing the best job possible but that obstacles to growth and change come from the past as well as the present. Guided reading can also be incorporated to enhance further learning.
